Shreya Ghoshal's family is originally from Bengal. She grew up in  Rawatbhata, a small town near Kota, Rajasthan. When she was only four  years old Shreya began accompanying her mother on the harmonium. She  began her training in Hindustani classical music under Maheshchandra  Sharma in kota.
As a child, Shreya won the kids special episode of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa  contest on Zee TV. Kalyanji was one of the judges at this competition,  and he was the person who convinced her parents to move to Mumbai.  Shreya trained under Kalyanji for one and a half year and later  continued her training under Mukta Bhide.
When Shreya participated in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa as an adult (2000) the  famous director Sanjay Leela Bhansali noticed her abilities and gave her  a break in Bollywood with Devdas. Shreya did the playback for Aishwarya  Rai.Today Shreya is one of the top singers in Bollywood and apart from  Hindi she has also sung in many languages such as Tamil, Telegu,  Kannada,Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi etc.
